First Opera 9.60 Preview

Just days after the Opera 9.52 release, the Opera Desktop Team has posted the first preview of Opera 9.60. Highlights include:

Opera Link synchronizes more data, adding custom search engines and typed history (i.e. URLs that you type into the address bar).

Feed previews when you click on an RSS/Atom feed, so you can look at the content before subscribing.

Mail improvements including:

  • Low Bandwidth Mode. In this mode, IMAP will only synchronize new messages and only retrieve attachments when requested, and POP will only fetch the first 100 lines of each message until you request that it download the full message.
  • Follow/Ignore threads and contacts, making it easier to track discussions when you have a lot of messages.
  • Go To Thread, which filters the view to show only the current thread.

As usual, the preview is available for Windows, Mac and Linux.

Is OperaWatch now dead apart from replicating content from the developer blogs?

  2. 2 Fleawin

    Nah, Tamil is still alive.

I think that Duncan got a point here…I loved the old OperaWatch, but now it only express Opera view and replicate news dutyfully without an ounce of thinking or thoughts…

    Kelson,

Just to be clear (re your comment), I’m not trying to overly belittle your posts and am mindful of unintentionally discouraging opera watch authors from posting. I don’t doubt that there are many who read this blog but not the development ones. The only point is that the last time the blog had fresh content was early July. Do you need some ideas? I’m sure people can come up with a few… :-)

Kelson, thanks for the news, and I pity you.
This may not be what it was once – for obvious reasons, but I think experienced Opera Watch readers could “watch” their own attitude a bit better. The posters like Kelson and Tamil are very well able to tell if they could do better without such blunt comments. As a matter of fact, only then would the content hit home. Beyond that – sorry – these overly ambitious comments make the readers concentrate on the posters self indulgence more than on any content, and just turn them off. Stuff as old as mankind, ce la vie…

    It’s ok.

Enable opera:config#UserPrefs|EnableScrollMarker (& enable default skin) to view scroll marker. ;)

Feed preview sounds like a killer improvement. I often subscribe to a feed, based on an undated interesting article , only to realize that the blog/site hasn’t been updated since 2007.
