Does it come with an automatic update mechanism that doesn’t require serious user activity like visiting the Opera website, downloading the new version, uninstalling the old version and installing the new one?
It seems like Opera is falling way behind here. Even I.E. has a better update mechanism than Opera.
using
You are almost right but… you don’t have to unistall the previous version! (9.50)
using
what ? this version DOESN’T work with gmail !!! and now ? i have to install it and come back to the prevoius ???
using
Is that not the way, just put 9.50 on this computer this morning!
using
I have already published it on Chilehardware:

@ pluto:
Strange… I just checked my GMail account and everything went fine.
using
Can you detach pages by dragging them off the windows?
using
ignore my last comment, not fixed yet….

Nice release guys. Good to see default search engine sticking and quicktime working. Google spreadsheets in the next version would be greatly apprecited.
Thanks!

Gmail is not working for me either after updating to Opera 9.51. gmail.com resolves to
http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=1&disablechatbrowsercheck=1and then nothing happens. I just have a blank screen. There were no issues for me before the upgrade. I installed the ubuntu 8.04 version on xubuntu 8.04.
using
Gmail is working flawlessly for me. ☺
using
Standard view for Gmail doesn’t work for me either.
I’m glad to see some interface and security fixes,
but I really need Gmail working in Standard instead of basic.
I love Opera, but I gotta have my email.
using
Yeah, the update is workin fine…
using
I should have added some extra info with my previous post.
Gmail worked when I upgraded to 9.50 from the last 9.2x.
There were other issues, but Gmail was working as well as it had previously for me.
I upgraded again to 9.51 and I get the blank screen described in earlier posts.
I wish I knew of a way to fix it, because I like the interface tweaks in 9.51 over 9.50.
I’m wondering if I can install 9.50 on top of my 9.51 to get Gmail back.
I’ve used Opera for 8+ years, and I would like to keep it as my main browser.
using
Why dose it not auto update like t used to, It seems to be going down hill. So far im happy with the way opera seems to be this way or the high way. I.E 7 is realy out there now overtook opera.
using
If Gmail with standard HTML doesn’t work on Opera 9.51, you shoud check the browser identification.
Tools > Quick Preferences > Edit Site Preferences
Network tab > Browser Identification > Identify as Opera

Gmail doesn’t work for me either. Same problem.
using
@Anoop, Try classic installer.
@Wojtek, Try https://mail.google.com/mail/?nocheckbrowser
using
Gmail was working with 9.51 for a bit but then stopped working for me about a week ago. Maybe they did something?
using
Gmail works for me now.
Thanks to whoever (pon) sent me the note about browser ID in Opera 9.51.
I changed the browser ID string to identify as Opera and Gmail works in standard mode.
This never affected it before, but as long as it works, I can switch as needed.
Maybe something changed in Gmail, but I don’t know.
I have to identify as IE for some sites I use.
using
the nocheckbrowser parameter works nice here (9.51) — it loads the new ui.
funny that it works great. one could also try this (i am using it at the moment):
http://code.google.com/p/gmail2-for-opera/
using
@Tamil (for comment to Wojtek): doesn’t work either.
However, GMail is working for me in Opera 9.51 on another computer I’ve here…
using
@Damian I have the same problem.. gmail standard view was working fine with 9.51 for a while but stopped working for some reason.
using
I had the same problem and solved it by unchecking the Site Preferences->Content->Enable Content Blocking checkbox. It’s some wierd google related problem as O9.51 has the same problem (with the same solution) on google maps as well.
using
Yeah, Gmail is not working for me either!
(9.51 upgrade from 9.50 on WinXP)
I tried identifying the browser as Opera
Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Content > Manage Site Preferences
with no luck, its already identified as Opera!
I noticed Minusf suggestion, I donno though about its security, specially when Google says in its disclaimer..
Pluto posted the problem on July 3rd, why hasn’t this been fixed yet?!
using
The temporarily solution is link http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=1&disablechatbrowsercheck=1

9.51 on Vista is driving me crazy with many small problems that add up to it being virtually unusable. I’ve used Opera for about 10 years, don’t make me switch to something else.
Gmail doesn’t work properly. I’ll double click on send and it opens up a preferences window, the wait circle goes round and round and nothing happens. I copy my emails text. Close GMail and reopen it, paste the text into my email, click send and it will go.
I’ll click on Gmail in the Speed Dial and nothing happens. I’ll cick on it again a few minutes later and it MIGHT work. If it doesn’t I’ll delete private data, close Opera and reopen it and it MIGHT work.
Also the speed dial will show the wrong websites eg For Gmail it may show Yahoo (also on my speed dial page)
It also seems to remember where I was last time and when i open Yahoo mail it will open at Send Mail – with a blank email ready to be sent
There are too many other little bugs like this but its driving me mad.
I thought it was vista and reinstalled it but its just the same
HELP
using
I do not know why but Opera 9.51 build 2061 for linux still have many bugs in it. Opera freezes often. my setup is 1.25 gig ram 2.0 ghz ubuntu 8.04 so i know it is not a hardware issue. I don’t want to sound like I am complaing I love that Opera is on Linux but the latest version leaves alot to be desired. I use firefox most of the times now instead of the inverse, I hope they will iron out the bugs in the next update.

I can assure you that gmail2 is working in Opera 9.51 by default. You do not need any userjs to make it work. even the standard link https://mail.google.com/mail/ works now. You don’t have to append “?nocheckbrowser” anymore.
The default user-agent has changed to “Opera/9.xx” since… well, version 9. No more default spoofing as MSIE. Make sure the value under “opera:config#UserAgent|SpoofUserAgentID” is set to “1″ so that Opera identifies itself correctly. Then reload Gmail and see if it works. If it doesn’t, right click the page and edit the “site preferences-network” tab. Make sure that “Identify as Opera” is checked, save your settings and reload the page.
If that doesn’t work, check for any userjs, adblock scripts (urlfilter.ini anyone
) or user css that may interfere with Gmail2. That should do it… Almost… I had to do the ol’ https://mail.google.com/mail/?nocheckbrowser trick at work for some reason. Maybe the proxy spoofs user-agents? Who know… Who cares?! It works now
If the above doesn’t help, you’re on your own.

@Ondra
Thank you so much.
Gmail and Googlemaps now work flawlessly.
Now I wonder what did google change to make it suddenly stop working…hmm.
using
I do agree with everyone. I seem to be having issues with a few websites too, to include my Banks website and gmail. I hope they put out an update soon that will fix these issues. I have been useing Opera for quite some time and I would hate to move on.
using
I found the biggest problem on linux. I have to stop and start gmail loading about five times. On windows (w2k pro & vista) I usually only have to stop & start loading gmail once after I call it up on Speed Dial the first time. Started with Opera 9.50, but Google has been playing with gmail as well, so it may not all be Opera’s fault.
It is still a pain nonetheless.
