Opera:
“We will offer a Symbian version of Opera Mobile, but you will have to wait a while. We do not yet know when the Symbian version will be ready because development and quality assurance on mobile devices is time consuming.”

Tasks that are time-consuming can still be PLANNED! Plans can produce COMPLETION DATES! Or has Opera never heard of Project Management?

This isn;t even cogent as an explanation, and “you will have to wait a while” sounds patronising and disrepectful.

It would seem that Opera aren’t interested in giving any priority to Symbian, either at the moment or in the foreseeable future.

Overall a dismissive arrogant attitude ftom Opera that is not the best way to win over customers.

This is not acceptable . Beta release will not include Symbian !. We’ve been waiting for Opera Mobile 9.5 Symbian edition for 4 months. I’ll doubt they will release Opera mobile 9.5 this year for Symbian .

So far there’s been no official answer about whether the new version will be on anything but Windows Mobile and the few UIQ 3.3 devices that already have it scheduled for release. Just a load of speculation, and even more “Your phones suxxxor!” We’d all be happy if you guys have any insider insight you could add to the debate.

Who cares about HTC **** and other fake Palms. We want a real Opera browser on Palm OS. Unbelievable that Opera is feeding Microsoft. Dumb, really dumb.

TaZ: I agree completely, and if I had had more time, I probably would have been more critical in the blog post. All you have to do is take a look at the Opera Mobile blog to see how delayed Opera Mobile 9.5 has been. They promised a public build in late March, then told us to wait a couple of weeks, then gave no word until just a few days ago.

Acerz: Since the Opera Mobile blog header image says, “for Symbian and Windows Mobile,” then I would cautiously assume yes. But don’t quote me! You might also browse the 108 comments to see if someone official answered since many people asked that same question on their blog.

I am currently using a version of Opera Mobile 9.5 and have shown it off to a multitude of people. Every person I have shown it to is blown away by the simplicity, power, speed and desktop-like-experience. I know for a fact that you have at least ten more customers based on the reactions I keep getting when showing off your software. Congratulations are due for such a fantastic product. I very much look forward to both being able to try the beta of Opera Mobile and having the ability to forward this fantastic product to the many people already very impressed also.

That said obviously it would have been much better to receive more word as changes had occurred in the schedule – even if all that could be said was that it was still some time away. think Opera has lost a fair bit of respect from previous zealots of their software. I only hope that they will learn from the mistakes and take a page out of the Opera Desktop team’s book on how they communicate with die-hard fans. I know this seems a lot easier from the outside than it may from the inside but just a couple of words would support some of the biggest assets in getting the Opera word out and about Opera.
