Wow. That was quick. Was the rush to get to final in order to beat Firefox to the punch or merely coincidental, eh?
using
Yes :). I’ll try soon. Big thanks and thumbs up for the Opera crew :).
using
…and now we will all be looking forward to Peregrine.
using
Oh its fast fast fast! Yay!
using
i must say that this UI isn’t completely well atm… I am using Xp but i MUST say that close tab “x” is too small and hard to spot… same thing applies for bin and new tab icon…. it’s too dark for my taste… hope u improve it
using
I’ve been using Opera 9.5 since its very first alpha snapshot. A big turn was on snapshot 9613. Now 10057 is the other big one.
I’ve customized its UI to fit my needs and taste. The built-in E-mail client handles 6 e-mail accounts, professionnal or not. It does this better than some programs intended to do only that. It’s never needed to quit Opera. Low mem footprint and robust against all threats in conjunction with a good a.v. (Norton360)
On my laptop, Op is running 16h per day and sometimes more when needed.
Since monthes.
Simply the best.
I often try other well known browser on friends’machines.
Opera from far is just the fastest and the most secure. And nice to see…
using
I want peregrine!!! Cant wait for a weekly build of that.
Offtopic : I think operawatch is using bad-behaviour, spam karma or similar plugin that utilises ip address based filtering. Please disable it. They are very very errorneous. It keeps blacklisting me whenever I try to comment.. and I believe it has all of BSNL Dataone’s ip addresses in its blacklist.
A better plugin is something like Wp-Spam free : http://www.hybrid6.com/webgeek/plugins/wp-spamfree
Anyway, if possible turn of ip-address based fileting as I am having to use a proxy for commenting.
using
Argh.. you spoiled my Opera experince.. had to add some keyword shortcuts back in,
but how do i disable the search in bookmarks everytime i type something in the addressbar????
using
Did you see Opera FAQ #81?
Currently, it is not possible.
using
Tamil you link to my.opea.com instead of my.opera.com in the main post as well as in the comment.
using
Thanks Pallab.

Good things are coming
using
Got an email today to say that 9.5 was ready.
Downloaded it and am most impressed - only problem, I don’t seem to have an “Opera Link” facility. There is nothing in “File” ( as suggested by the explanation video!)
Am I missing something that I should have done?

Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger
>:D
using
This is incredible. Years ago, before FireFox, Opera was my browser of choice.
But in recent years I’ve been using Firefox…and yet never completely happy with it. For some reason, I never experienced the “speed” that others experienced. I tried several times to “like” Opera again, because on my computer it’s so much faster. But I RELY HEAVILY on Google apps, including Google Docs……And they never worked right with Opera….even as recently as one of the 9.5 Betas. But I’ve been using 9.5 now since the latest release candidate, and now the final product…..and I find it works GREAT with my Google apps. It’s much faster than Firefox, for the things I like to do, it’s more easily customizable, the skins look better than Firefox…and now my last reason for not using Opera is gone. I’m here to stay!
using
Tamil, is there any other way to get the ‘Synchronize Now’ on the file menu. i looked at the link you suggested and Opera standard was already selected. in fact it was the only thing there.
using
k3m15a, could you upload standard_menu.ini file?
using
Now where are the people who said Kestrel was “Duke Nukem Forever”?
using
Wow, that was fast! If I’d known it was only going to be 2 days, I think I would’ve skipped my “coming soon” post!
using
Image of 9.5 doesn’t show (Google) search field in address bar. Bad for promotion of integrated search features… http://www.opera.com/products/desktop/
(just for the records
)
using
It’s anying though, that it doesn’t automatically transfer Bookmarks and Speed dial from 9.5 beta… Does anyone know an easy way of doing that???
using
i feel this release was rushed. it is still not possible to disable the transfer window popping up when saving images. it is not possible to make the auto-scroll icon appear centered (which was the standard behavior for opera until 9.5 and i miss it greatly). opera link still feels like a very unfinished feature because there are many important things it still can’t sync (search sites, skin and buttons, custom mouse gestures and shortcut keys) and it doesn’t have a guest mode. eagerly awaiting 9.6 :/
using
See migrating settings.
using
From the AP press story:
“The Opera browser was once a strong alternative to Microsoft Corp. s Internet Explorer and Time Warner Inc. s Netscape. But its relative usage has diminished with the rise of Netscape’s successor, Mozilla’s Firefox, despite Opera’s knack for innovation and the company’s decision in 2005 to drop a $39 fee for an ad-free version.”
using
Good release. Very fast and the new history search and Opera link are so useful. I just set up Opera on my new Mac and opera link made it so easy to migrate my bookmarks and speed dial. Excellent work Opera Software
using
Very nice! I think Opera will become my default browser again (Safari, because of its speed, had become my alternative for the past few months).
Congrats, Opera Team! By the way, I really like the new default skin (liked the old one, but the new is to the old what Vista is to XP, in terms of default interface). Congrats there too
using
does scrolling on this new version feel really wonky to anyone else?
using
S123Rt, stop trolling. Who cares? market share doesn’t mean something is better than something else.
using
@s123Rt
They are getting their facts wrong. Opera’s market share has increased slowly and steadily ever since it went free.
@Grrblt
Really? Let’s see…
View - Never show
And besides, this would have been a minor bug at best. At some point you have to ship it.
Not a bug.
So you wanted Opera to add even more features instead of doing bugfixing, and delay it even more?
So basically, you are saying that the release was “rushed” because it doesn’t have all your feature requests incorporated?
using
@heh
View - Never show
I don’t have Opera on this computer so I can’t try it, but “Never show” sounds like even worse behavior. I want transfer window to appear when I save content. I just don’t want it to appear when I save images that have already been downloaded with the website. If “never show” is a misnomer and clicking that box will make it work like I want, then great.
it is not possible to make the auto-scroll icon appear centered
Not a bug.
I know it’s not a bug. It’s a change from previous versions that I don’t like, and I want a way to change it back.
So you wanted Opera to add even more features instead of doing bugfixing, and delay it even more?
No, I’m saying I want them to *complete* features before shipping it. Synchronization is missing many important things.
So basically, you are saying that the release was “rushed” because it doesn’t have all your feature requests incorporated?
No, I’m saying it was rushed because they changed two behavior and gave us no way to change it back, despite many people complaining about it. I’m saying Link was rushed because it currently lacks important parts. What would you say if 9.0 had shipped with its bittorrent support lacking many important features? There’s also the fact that one of the Link guys (can’t remember name now) said on my.opera forums that more synchronization options were “coming soon”, and there’s no trace of them in 9.5 final.
I have many other feature request and I’m not complaining that they were left out.
using
@Grrblt - it wasn’t rushed if those changes were planned and on purpose. Link wasn’t rushed just because it doesn’t synchronize everything yet, and wasn’t planned to do so in 9.5. You’ve got to start somewhere, you know.
You are basically saying that since Opera implemented features as THEY planned it rather than the way YOU wanted them, it was rushed.
That’s terrible logic.
And no one at my.opera.com said that more sync options were “coming soon”, unless they were referring to Notes, which is actually were included in 9.5. Please don’t lie

You’ve got to start somewhere, and that’s why you have alphas and betas. I expect a final version to be, you know… complete. I realize the changes were done on purpose. Do you also think it was their intention to *force* everyone into new behaviors? “We know some of you might not like this change, but we don’t care”? That would make 9.5 not rushed, but it would also make the developers idiots.

Please don’t accuse me of lying when you don’t have a clue.

Once again Grrblt is assuming that because Opera decided to do something other than what Grrblt, Opera 9.5 is “incomplete” or “rushed”.
Yes, you were saying that 9.5 was rushed because Opera doesn’t work the way you want it to.
Making Opera behave differently when it makes sense does not make the developers idiots. Just because you are used to a wrong way of doing things doesn’t mean that everyone else should be forced to do it that way. But that’s a different discussion, and now you are changing your story from what you originally claimed.
That post says:
“More fun coming up soon”
Fun?
Also, what is “soon”? That could be anything from weeks to months. Likely the latter in the world of software.
Don’t lie!
using
Yes, you were saying that 9.5 was rushed because Opera doesn’t work the way you want it to.
No, learn to read. I’m saying it was rushed because they didn’t do things they absolutely should have.

Again, learn to read. *I* am the one saying no one should beforced to do it one way.
“More fun coming up soon”
Fun?
Uh, yeah. “A Link person” working at Opera Software is writing in a thread about Synchronization, and says that notes have been added to sync and that more fun is coming soon. Obviously he was talking about the upcoming Wii game and not about sync.
Also, what is “soon”? That could be anything from weeks to months. Likely the latter in the world of software.
I don’t know exactly what “soon” means. I only said someone working with Link said more things were coming soon, and I was called a liar for that. So I provided the proof, and was again called a liar for unknown reasons.
Don’t lie!
Don’t be a moron!
using
Opera 9.5 is awesome on any platform… must download!
using
no upperleft tab button…
that was the one thing that is so good about opera, coz user knows where to click to get new tab.. now is just an icon
using
This release is terrible.
I’m so dissapointed with 9.5 that I went looking for an Opera email address to write to, but I couldn’t find one on their site. My biggest issues are the new default skin (which has very poor useability so I’ve changed to classic), Quicktime support is partially broken (can’t get mp3s to play with it and some pages on Apple trailers don’t work). the download manager has dumbed down it’s right-click context menu and the address bar wont automatically search if i type more than one word (I know there’s history seacrh now, but why does that mean this feature had to go?).
using
well if someone from opera will read it… one guy in slovakia tested how many tabs can u open in Opera 9.5 - 1113 > http://blog.sablatura.info/programy/jak-vypada-opera-95-s-1100-otevrenymi-panely-listy/ and it only used 550MB memory! something to be proud of opera guys
just fix the bunch of bugs and it will be PERFECT
using
it was sait before (And removed) that Firefox 3 in the same test fared much better than Opera 9.5 final (1500 tabs and only 320 mb footprint)
using
@Grrblt
Ah! It was rushed because they didn’t do what YOU wanted them to do! I get it! Because you are of course in a position to dictate Opera.
And you dishonestly “interpret” that to suit your dishonest claims.
Pathetic.
using
My only issue with Opera 9.5 is that there is no automatic in-line spell checking. I know this can be installed, but I would like to see it in version 10. Other than that, I am very impressed.
using
@qweert: It’s too bad that the only reason firefox fares “better” is that it dumps useful stuff out of memory far too soon. You can do the same in Opera by disabling automatic memory caching and setting a hard limit at the lowest setting.
using
The default search on the speed dail search is now Ask. Has Opera sorted a search sponsorship deal with Ask? If so, is Yahoo still sponsoring searches too?
Have yet to try 9.5 on Linux and FreeBSD, but seems to be better than 9.27 on the Mac - its certainly faster.
using
I’ve been a fan for a good couple of years now and have never had a problem… Just downloaded 9.5… looks great and I’m sure I’ll love the new features, but is anyone else unable to scroll ? I’ve got it on a fairly new Dell running Vista Business, the scroll wheel does nothing, tried clicking it, double clicking it, Opera just ignores me ?
Any suggestions, otherwise it looks like I’ll have to try and go back to the previous version, don’t want to even think about using IE!!!
using
Ah! It was rushed because they didn’t do what YOU wanted them to do! I get it! Because you are of course in a position to dictate Opera.
No, it is very clear that you *don’t* get it. It was rushed because they changed functionality that many liked, and didn’t provide a way to change it back.
And you dishonestly “interpret” that to suit your dishonest claims.
Pathetic.
At least I’m not the one *misinterpreting* it. He is telling us that more Link stuff is coming “soon”. 9.5 came sooner.
And how the hell could you fit “dishonest” in that sentence? Twice! Do you even know what the word means?
using
@Grrblt
Yes, you are confirming that you are saying that it was rushed because you don’t like what they did.
And you lied about Opera promising anything for Link. That post could have been about anything related to Link, not just what you sync. Or he was misinformed and made a statement which wasn’t approved by the management. Again, just because YOUR feature requests aren’t in there doesn’t mean that it was rushed.
Also, learn to quote.
using
Bottom line, Grrblt’s claim that 9.5 was rushed because it doesn’t synchronize everything is obviously completely bogus. If they had started supporting something and removed it again just to get 9.5 out, he would at least been remotely close to being able to claim that it was rushed, but there was nothing indicating that Link was cut down to “rush out” 9.5.
using
I read about that, that Opera 9.5 now should work with my google apps and docs. But it doesn’t. What is the Problem?
This problems are the one and only thing why i don’t use Opera as favourite browser. And the firefox is to slow and not really perfect. What could i do that my google gadgets work?
Some help for me?
Thanks
using
Why, out of all things that could be changed, they diabled the left panel activation area and cache folder file extensions?
using
The new interface is refreshing and browsing speed is definitely fast, but after spending few days with 9.5 I feel that it’s very buggy and in some ways worse than Beta 2. It freezes quite alot especially when security cert popups or ‘delete private data’ popup are launched. Once my Speed Dail images got moved to another slot (eg. My Gmail Speed Dail image was showing an image of another website in my Speed Dail list). Hope an update will be released very soon. I’m still an ardent Opera supporter ever since 8.5.
using
sorry that i am here with that IE, but i am at work.
OK. right DOCs are working but not the spreadsheets. I testet it with taht java script, but it doesn’t run.
Hope they will do that in a future update. I need this google spreadsheets to share my sheets with other users.
using
SHIFT+F12 → Panels → Show panel toggle at edge of window

I recently downloaded Opera 9.5 and i must it is quite good. but i have faced some problems with this one and even with Opera 9.27. It is that whenever i browse for some secure sites ( eg: https:// …) it shows some error and does not display. also, some javascript problems with the yahoo mail and some sites with scrolling links.
Is there any plug-in which did not load while running the setup ? i have seen one plug-in called XHTML+Voice as not loaded. is this the reason? if so, can someone suggest from where can i get this plug-in?
Thanks
using
What was wrong with cache files extensions anyway??
It was useful to grab movies from browser players, flash animations and games without downloading them for the second time (since they are already downloaded to the cache dir), and now its 100 times more difficult not knowing which file type is which(as if the “oprxxxxx” file name wasn’t bad enough). Is there even a reasonable explanation why this feature was removed?
using
Use opera:cache
using
@Tenobok
The cache would have been slower with extensions, and the old cache used to result in a lot of false positives from virus scanners. Also, it’s a security risk because simply viewing the cache folder could get you infected because of the way Windows works. Now it’s safe that way.
So at least 3 reasons to remove the extensions.
using
PDFs do not work with disk cache off in Opera 9.50. Hopefully gets fixed in the next update. Worked in 9.27.
using
It looks like Opera has gone the way they others with the search assistant tool bar. Am I the only one that finds this annoying? I deleted 9.5 and went back to an earlier version that doesn’t have this. I won’t use a new version until I have not choice. They should allow you to turn it off. If they do let me know, I can’t find it anywhere. It’s ****. It’s like another unwanted POPUP.
using
i don’t find any difference between opera and fire fox but lets see opera 9.5 .hope it will be faster and secure.
using
yes opera 9.5 is much better …. thanks
using
I find this latest version of Opera fast and slick. Previously, frankly I could not see a difference in speed betwee Opera and Firefox, but now I can. Opera is really fast. I’m sorry the cache has been changed but I accept the security implications explained above. One other point. Firefox used to be my default browser, but I’ve changed to Opera. One of the reasons is that Firefox 3 shows an error 203, which means extensions cannot be installed or updated. This is a bug that Firefox acknowledge but no single person is working on it. Quite a few people have this bug, which keeps reappearing, even after work arounds. I also like the new Opera skin. But the main reason is I like the speed. Congratulations on your work. Excellent stuff!
using
Opera 9.5 final is VERY buggy… I have had so many freezes since I installed it. I didn’t have any trouble with 9.27. It’s usually when you download or visit a site with pop-ups. I wouldn’t recommend it until the bugs are fixed…
using
Why on earth did they remove the cache file extensions? Any work around for this issue, so that I can use files on cache?
Plz help…
