Opera 9.5 on the Horizon

Opera 9.5 Coming Soon

After months of betas and near-weekly previews, Opera 9.5 is nearly here. The first release candidate of the browser shipped today.

Opera 9.5 is a major update to the desktop web browser. Highlights include:

  • Opera Link synchronizes your bookmarks, Speed Dial, and notes between Opera on different computers, and even links to Opera Mini on your phone!
  • Enhanced address bar searches your entire browsing history, including the contents of each page.
  • Security enhancements: malware protection, improved fraud protection, and support for Extended Validation SSL Certificates
  • New rendering engine with improved site compatibility and performance.
  • Opera Dragonfly, the long-awaited tools for web developers.
  • New theme inspired by Scandinavian design.

And, of course, it’s all free.

If you want to try out a preview before launch, the Desktop Team has a release candidate available.

With Opera 9.5 and Firefox 3 both around the corner, June is shaping up to be a good month for the future of the web.

    Opera has really surpassed itself. Apart from yahoo mail beta loading error, and some webpages that don’t work correctly, this is the perfect Internet Browser. I am sure that Opera 10 will fix those errors. Until then, I will continue remaining loyal to Emperor Opera.

    Is there anyway to turn this off? I’d rather not have my porn bookmarks displayed everytime someone types google into the address bar

    where the hell has the panels thing gone, you used to be able to just click the left of the screen to open bookmarks etc??

    It is not so bad
    Go to Tools - Appearance - Panels, and you’ll find a switch to turn that function on or off :)
    “Show panel toggle at the edge of window”

Q: Why should I download a browser? Doesn't my computer already come with one for free?
A: It's about getting more out of the time you spend on the internet. Opera is designed to be much faster than these browsers and gives you powerful features that the default browser lacks. Default browsers like Internet Explorer are also more likely to be subjected to dangerous software such as viruses and spyware.

Q: Will Opera keep me safe from fraudulent websites and malicious hackers?

Q: Doesn't Opera copy all of their features from other browsers?

Q: Can I also use Opera on my mobile phone?
A: Yes. And your Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS or almost any connected device and mobile phones. Opera Mobile oftens comes preinstalled from the manufacturers, but if it doesn't you can install Opera Mini which runs on nearly all phones.
