Opera Mobile 9.5 Reviewed

Matthew Miller over at ZDNet has written a nice review of the new Opera Mobile 9.5 for mobile phones. Here are some highlights:

After using Opera Mobile 9.5 for several days [...], I have to say it is the new standard for web browsing on a mobile device.

Opera Mobile 9.5 takes [the browsing] experience to the next level with quick context-sensitive zooming (called Opera Zoom), fluid finger scrolling and panning, multiple tabbed browsing, ability to save pages for offline viewing, fast page loading, Flash Lite 3 support, and more.

IMHO, Opera Mobile 9.5 is even better than the iPhone’s Safari browser because I can perform functions like text selection, copy and paste, manage passwords, and save or send images from a web page.

Opera Mobile 9.5 was announced back in February but has not yet been released for download. It can, however, be found preinstalled in some mobile phones, such as the HTC Advantage X7510, which Mr. Miller used for his review.

    “but has not yet been released for download.”

    …and that’s the only BIG problem here!

    I’m sure I’m not the only one keeping an eye on the Opera Mobile blog for news of the release. Are there any hints as to when the rest of us will get a look-in? Have been keen to get hold of a copy since the Febuary announcement.

    By the time it turns up, it’ll be obsolete! I love Opera Mobile 8.65, but I can’t be the only one wondering what the delay to 9.5 beta is, particularly since it’s already been rolled out onto some devices. It’s very odd.

    Wonder if there will be a PalmOS version (how does one say ‘PLEASE????’ in Norwegian?)

    @Andy: You should email your mobile company to ask them when Opera Mobile v9.5 is available on their device or if it will be pre-installed. We need pressure from both sides.

  7. 7 hmm

    @Andy

    I actually don’t think Opera Mobile 9.5 is available on any phones right now. All phones where 9.5 has been announced are still in development, AFAIK.
