PC Magazine: Hands-on with new Windows Mobile browsers

PC Magazine today posted a run-down of some of the new Web browsers for Windows Mobile. They reviewed Opera Mobile 9.5, Torch Mobile, ACCESS, and Skyfire.

Overall, they had some pretty nice things to say about the upcoming Opera Mobile 9.5 browser.

“Opera Mobile 9.5 significantly pumps up the existing Opera Mobile 8.6 browser.”

“Opera’s UI is sleeker, with attractive, gray menus and a full-screen mode where the menus disappear completely.”

“Most powerfully, though, Opera Mobile 9.5 supports Web widgets, which are little applications developed in AJAX and HTML that display various chunks of information, like sports scores or weather. Opera’s widgets are similar to Google’s, Yahoo’s, Apple’s and Windows Vista’s on the desktop.”

what engine does skyfire use? webkit?

Skyfire is Gecko-based, like Firefox. Basically it’s a VNC client running the browser on a server, so they are able to show anything that is rendered in the real browser.

which will help it show most sites as intended. Interesting concept.

@nilsson: Interesting concept indeed. Is it a real vnc server or something look-a-like?
