Opera Mini more popular than Netscape, statistics show

The November stats by NetApplications show Opera Mini is more popular than the Netscape browser (see graph below).
According to these stats, Opera Mini’s market share grew significantly over the previous month. In November, Opera Mini had a market share of 0.66% (of the entire browser market share, including desktop browsers), which is up from 0.41% in the month of October.
With the increase in Opera Mini’s popularity, it jumped ahead of the once-popular Netscape browser. Netscape’s market share comes in at a 0.57%.
I should point out that these stats aren’t available publicly on NetApplication’s website; you must be logged in to see them. For those of you with a My Opera account, you already have a NetApplications/HitsLink account. Simply go to your account settings page on My Opera, and follow the link for ‘Statistics.’

(Opera Mini moving up in the charts!)

Hmmm… This page provide different data.

FataL, there is something terribly wrong with those stats. Just take a look at the stats from the previous month, you’ll notice how Opera is shown to have a share of somewhere in the 0.50s, this isn’t consistent with what they posted last month. Look at my screenshots from the previous months.
Another indicator that those stats are erroneous. According to them, more people browser the web on the PlayStation than the Nintendo Wii Internet channel. I have no concrete data on this, but something tells me that it’s the opposite.

Great job Opera Mini team, well deserved
(Daniel, thanks for tip on how to access those stats)

Yeah, I was pretty shocked too when I saw that page FataL is linking to…hopefully they’ll discover some error somewhere and fix it. Thanks for the screenshot Daniel, wouldn’t have thought to check their stats elsewhere.

hmmm seing the help page at hitslink : http://www.hitslink.com/help/help.aspx?rid=125
and the help at marketshare.hitslink.com : http://marketshare.hitslink.com/help/help.aspx?rid=0
This report lists the market share of the top browsers in use. This data is derived by aggregating the traffic across our network of websites that use our service.
i don’t know why it has different results…
using
philry4n, I’m not sure either why the stats are different. As I said above, even the stats from the previous months have change.
FYI: We’re contacting HitsLink/NetApplications to sort things out.
using
Btw. Is there a OM market share per country ?, like this example for desktop (all versions)
http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid=12&qptimeframe=M&qpsp=106&qpmr=300&qpdt=1&qpct=103&qpcustom=*4&qpob=MarketShare%20DESC&sample=1
using
Ops, click on *Stan Loves Opera* on above link page to see stats

When I’m logged into Hitslink via MyOpera I see “better” statistics. When I’m not logged I see just statistics FataL sent. I think it’s a little messy. But I believe better statistics because Opera Mini can’t have just 0.03%.
using
If you change the data range from november to november, you get pretty much the same results.

who cares about opera mini, opera for desktop has broken the 1%!

I’m really not understanding the different looks on the site as described above, but it’s not a new phenomenon. When wasn’t it that way? The figures reported here for October, for example (http://operawatch.com/news/2007/11/opera-desktop-browser-experiences-substantial-growth-in-browser-market-share.html) do no jibe with the figures shown when visiting the site normally for that month. Is it possible the better Opera numbers as seen one way come from lumping in visits to My Opera, which, of course, would be skewed Opera’s way?
That aside, it would be more useful to put Mini in the context of other *mobile* browsers, wouldn’t it? Where’s that chart? How would it stack up against the iPhone? Who has the lion’s share in that market, Windows Mobile (IE)?
using
Wow! That’s wonderful! I had no idea that Opera Mini was so popular.
I use it many times every day on my Nokia E61..and before this mobile I’ve used it on my SE Z800i and before that on my old SE K300. So I’ve used it since version 2 or something like that and I tested all Dimension betas when they came out.
I have to say that I’m really satisfied with Opera Mini 4, it works great on my Nokia E61.
What do you guys think about Mozilla and the Firefox Mobile that’s planned to be released next year? Will Opera have problems with FF Mobile?
Afterall, Firefox is a much more powerful brand than Opera.
using
have you guys (with hitslink account) see the browser share statistics? it has a different system and doesn’t even have Opera Mini on it
and Opera 9 only has 0.64% share…
