BBC: How smart does your phone need to be?

A BBC article published today on their website discusses the advancements made on the non-smartphone mobile phones.
How smart is your phone?
“Can your phone take pictures? Probably yes.
But can it sync with the diary and contacts on your computer? Download and play music and videos? Play video games? Browse the web, do your e-mail? Tell you where you are and where to go?
Your answers are important – not just when you decide on your next mobile phone.”
Internet usage on phones growing
“Data usage “has already moved out of the early adopters stage,” says Paul Goode at M:Metrics.
T-Mobile is reporting double-digit growth for mobile internet usage in the UK during the past 18 months.”
Mobile browsing more popular than on PC
If you enjoyed this post, then make sure you subscribe to my RSS Feed.“In India, “more people access the internet from their phone than from a PC, a scenario that will certainly play out right across the globe,” says Dr Srikanth.
In Bangladesh, meanwhile, more people are using the popular Opera mini browser for mobile phones than there are computers in the country, says Jon von Tetzchner, chief executive of Opera.”

I’m quite happy as Opera Mini has finally came to Estonia too, at least I see some young people using it, sometimes showing it to me. I have seen it when the version 3 came out anyway. Interesting if the new OM 4 Final supports Siemens C75 though, as betas didn’t, but 3 did perfectly – however, I’m too lazy to fix my new settings for gprs and I don’t need to waste money actually anyway… yet.

After claiming last week that only 400-600 users use linux to access BBC.co.uk, its good to see something possitive.

I have bought the most simple phone (Nokia) last year’s November. Opera Mini doesn’t run on it, but I am happy with the phone anyway. Opera on Desktop (both Linux and Mac) is very good

Jonathan, perhaps you should try downloading the low-fi version of Opera Mini 3.
