The state of the mobile Web
Published October 2nd, 2007 10:46 AM EDT By Daniel GoldmanRussell Beattie, formally from Yahoo and a well respected person in the mobile Web industry, goes all out on Publishing 2.0 for suggesting that the mobile Web sucks (Warning: explicit language).
Last week the Publishing 2.0 blog published a list of five reasons on why the mobile Web sucks. Beattie debunks each of those reasons and makes the blogger look silly in the process.
Stephen Wellman from InformationWeek also chimes in, saying:
“I’ll grant that the mobile Web isn’t perfect. Neither is the desktop Web, for that matter. I’ll also concede that the mobile Web can be slow and that latency is still a big issue, even on 3G networks. But even if we concede all of this, the mobile Web still offers access to the entire Internet from almost any place at any time. If that’s not cool, I don’t know what is.”
Over at ZDNet Matthew Miller says:
“The mobile web is much better than it was 10 years ago”
“Just take a look at the iPhone and S60 Safari-based browsers and the excellent Opera Mini web browser.”
I rely on the mobile Web for the times that I’m away from my computer. For me, Opera Mini provides a great experience in browsing the Web on my mobile phone.
