Opera Widgets now on mobile phones too
Published October 25th, 2007 12:52 AM EDT By Daniel GoldmanFor the first time now, Opera Widgets will run on mobile phones too, in addition to on the Opera desktop browser.
Japan’s KDDI mobile phone carrier will ship 3 new phones, the Toshiba W56T, Sony Ericsson W54S and Sanyo W54SA, which are capable of running Opera Widgets.
When Opera first released Opera Widgets, many were wondering why the need for yet another widget platform. Our strategy with Opera Widgets is becoming much clearer now. We’ve always intended for widgets to be a platform to develop Web applications that aren’t dependent on proprietary or platform specific environments. Opera Widgets can run on virtually any device, ranging from PCs to mobile phones and other embedded devices. Pretty cool, no?
KDDI is branding these Opera Widgets as ‘au one Gadget’.

using
so they are called ‘au one Gadget’ not opera widgets, and as with the wii - noone knows that opera has something to do with that. great marketing effort.
you realise, that for 99% population this news has nothing to do with opera? just because it isnt called ‘opera’s widgets’?
using
I just can’t wait to see this on Opera Mobile 9 for windows mobile devices, if it ever comes out.
using
whatever2 (a.k.a. underwhlemed, sid, problem), KDDI is our customer; it’s up to them how they refer to these Opera Widgets. The name is not something we decide on.
using
So what can we do to light up the “widget available for phones” icon on widgets.opera.com ?

“The name is not something we decide on” - thats what im talking about - opera once again signed a deal that could easily be more beneficial for opera, than how it is already.
Wii casus anyone? how many non-opera users know that Wii Internet Channel has anything to with opera? how many users opera lost not exposing opera brand to wii users?
using
I don’t own a WII, but doesn’t the internet channel say “powered by Opera?”
using
Indeed it does.
using
It would have been better to say “powered by Opera Software,” at least.
using
Marketing is everything nowadays! Don’t forget that.
using
Wii indeed says OPERA POWERED in several places, and Opera’s logo is even on the Wii package. Sorry to burst your bubble, underwhelmed AKA whatever2.
Great marketing effort? This is more about sales, but you can bet your behind that KDDI’s competitors know very well what powers KDDI’s widgets. But you clearly do not understand the business market. You think everything is about you.
