How to remove the notifications for blocked pop-ups in Opera?
Published October 11th, 2007 1:55 PM EDT By Daniel GoldmanBy default, the Opera browser will block all unwanted popup ads/tabs/windows.
Whenever Opera blocks a pop-up, a small notification is shown (usually on the top right corner of the browser) telling you that the popup has been blocked. You can click on the notification to open the blocked popup.

How to disable these popup notifications?
In the menu bar, go to Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Notifications… Uncheck the following option: “Show notifications for blocked pop-ups”.

It does make sense for new users to know that a pop-up was blocked, so I don’t disagree with having this turned on be default, but I do think that they should change the style of the notification. IE6, for example, while noticeable, has a pop-up block notification that is subtle at the same time. The Opera notification always seems to me to be a just as distracting pop-up as the thing its blocking.

@Michael
I think that IE’s popup is more intrusive for several reasons: 1) it makes a sound, disturbing any music or silence you may be listening to. 2) it shifts the webpage down about 20 pixels after the page is loaded. 3) IE’s blocked popup bar is yellow, which steals the eye’s attention and can’t easily be ignored. I’ve disabled IE’s blocked popup sound, but I still can’t concentrate when there’s a yellow bar in my way. I HAVE to click the X on the yellow bar to close it. And so for me, IE’s popup warning is a popup.
Opera’s popup notification is less intrusive. It doesn’t make a sound, it isn’t yellow, it is only in the upper right part of the screen, it doesn’t move the page content down, and it disappears after a second or two. Nonetheless, I have disabled Opera’s popup notification because I can just look to see if the trash can is blue. Usually, popups that are blocked are ads. But sometimes I expect a popup from a website and I don’t get one. I just check for a blue can. This means Opera doesn’t get in my way of browsing, but can still tell me if it blocked a popup when I want to know.

Thanks for the tip, though I don’t plan to turn these notifications off, as I found them quite useful. On some sites, important pop-up windows are blocked by Opera, and while I totally understand that this is a result of a badly coded site, I still like to be notified that something was supposed to happen.
One other thing I’d love to know - is there a way to open the blocked pop-up window with a keyboard shortcut (opposed to having to click on a message with mouse)?
Thank you.
