Performance Tests for Opera 9.5
Published September 4th, 2007 6:23 PM EDT By Daniel GoldmanThe new Opera 9.5 alpha, which was released earlier today, has gotten a lot of very positive feedback with regards to its speed and performance. Many have noticed the increased performance and faster speeds with Opera 9.5.
So is Opera 9.5 really faster than Opera 9.23, Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer?
Well, thanks to NonTroppo, we have the first independent performance test for Opera 9.5 alpha (codename Kestrel) compared to the other browsers.
The browser performance tests are focused around the JavaScript (ECMAScript) engine and the DOM.
From the test result summary:
“Across the board, Opera Kestrel (a.k.a. Opera 9.5) is already significantly faster than Opera Merlin, and generally out-performs all other browsers tested. Some results, like the full javascript raytracer show that under heavy loads, Opera Kestrel is much more stable and memory efficient. This is important, because Opera uses the same core for all devices, from mobile phones to games consoles to desktop computers. Having a highly efficient core makes for much lower resource consumption and better scaling across devices. Opera Kestrel appears to have set new benchmarks for performance in rendering speed.
For Mac users, there is also encouraging signs that Opera Kestrel on the Mac is close to parity (and even faster in some cases) to the Windows version.”

Awesome. Opera rules.
I can’t wait for Kestrel to go final!
using
Kestrel is epic even in it’s Alpha release. I’m loving it.
Kudos to the O so might Opera team!

Excellent news!

Hmmm. Most of us are facing a problem of Opera crashing. Sadly. However, in the brief time I could manage to work, it is awesome. I have posted the queries in forum but so far no one has replied to the same.

“Most of us are facing a problem of Opera crashing.”
Who are “we”? Do you speak for everyone else?
using
But what about HTML performance? That’s the one that’s lagging behind the other browsers according to Apple Safari’s site.
using
Yes, what about HTML performance? Did you actually test it yourself? Is that why you are asking? Or are you just making assumptions?
using
impressive!!

o jeito é esperar o final

GameTrailers.com wont work for me (screen shot). I dont know what the problem is, but the same thing happened once to my.opera.com also.

Does anyone have a copy of those results in some different color? I can hardly see (and don’t want to kill my eyes trying to see ) which graph is for which browser, what a bad idea to make black text on black background.

Need my glasses
If you go to usermodus, it should become more clear to you

it is getting better. BTW, what is that feature that was ‘censored’ out a while back??
using
@junkeR:It’s the synchronization of bookmarks, personal bar and speeddial.

Really delivered on the benchmarking I was asking for. Maybe my logo when I am visiting this site will soon be showing the Opera logo:).
But to be serious, the results are amazing. The performance (especially for Alpha software) is incredible. While taking into account how Firefox is struggling…
using
Nice! it’s definately zooming along faster than ever..
quite a few tiny interface glitches, though not suprising for an alpha release.
Wheeeee!!
using
Seconded, Erkko. I’m astonished by how fast the browser has become, and was genuinely surprised to see how slow Firefox 3 was by comparison - I’d tried the latest alpha of that and thought it might have been improved enough over its predecessor to give Opera some serious competition - how happy I am to see how wrong-headed that thought was!
