Opera Mini’s growth over the past 5 months; 0.27% of total market share

Opera Mini more than doubled its market share in the past 5 months, according HitsLink.
In April, Opera Mini had 0.13% of the entire browser market share. It has now grown to 0.27% in the month of August.
As you can see from the graphs below, Opera Mini is having a phenomenal growth rate – a feat, considering that it’s a mobile Web browser.
I haven’t yet seen the internal stats for the month of August; however in the month of July Opera Mini users browsed close to 1 billion pages.

Nice! Brilliant job. Thanks for posting this Daniel. Last time, I was critical of the way you presented the figures; this seems a lot more adequate and honest to me, yet it still shows a great achievement.

Nice, but for marketing purposes, talk to Hitslink, request a stat of mobile browsers only… Then Opera could say… got eg. 75% market share on emerging mobile market, which is a more powerful statement (in combination with the monthly page views)

If that continues, OM will have 100% of the market share in 3.56 years. And dont’t even think about the longer future…
Calculation: t = (5* (ln (1/0.0027)(ln2))/12
using
Edit: t = 5* ((ln (1/0.0027)/ln2)/12), of course.
I want a formula editor in this blog!

@Hans Kiefer, Sir, what would happen after 3,56 years… “Collapse of user force”… ???… like… http://www.mpibp-frankfurt.mpg.de/aktuelles/spimp2004/
Hans, let’s have a chat in beautiful Marburg… :cheers:

@ Investor:
Totally confused. What does Marburg have to do with exponential growth?
If you are one of the guys on the group picture, give me a hint! I can’t remember any finance investor attending this meeting…
However, I am always ready for a chat. As long as you invest in my beer!
Cheers, Hans

With this growth rate, Opera Mini will reach 1.0 % sooner

than the desktop Opera.
I like them both, but Opera was never able to reach at least 1% of the global market share..:) am I right?
I hope that this will change starting with Kestrel’s release(but maybe it will drop again)..
It’s phenomenal, as you say, that Opera Mini’s share is continually growing, and it did not drop at all.

@Hans Kiefer,
Never mind, bad joke. The image (above link) reminded me of some stock chart (we know), and the theory of gravitation… what goes up goes down… due to natural forces like greed, fear, rights and wrongs… Human minds are not capable of making correct business decisions time and again, to create exponential growth…
I know Marburg well, but no, I’m not on the group photo… My research is related to financial markets and valuation of companies… got to be right to get a buck
:cheers:

@ Investor:
Got it! Actually, the “stock chart” is a protein threaded through a cell membrane (such as the one responsible for you getting mad due to elevated adrenaline, e.g.). Its ups and downs are 100% deterministic and predictable. The secret lies in the sequence of amino acids forming the protein chain.
However,this takes us a bit far away from Opera Mini stats,and I totally agree with your view on human minds trying to predict stock charts and the like!
