andol, I second that! I’ve mapped F1 to nicknames since …forever and its the first customization I do when installing a new Opera. Who needs F1 for help anyway?

alias also work in the bookmark folders, that way you can create a folder with the pages you read a lot and open all of them with just one shortcut

musiKk, if you open the bookmarks tab, you’ll see a list of nicknames. Go to Bookmarks > Manage bookmarks…

Is there a way to see all the different nicknames one once set? Because I (as probably most people) have quite some bookmarks and I wouldn’t want to lose track of the nicknames.

I’ve been using the Shift+F2 trick for years. In fact I started using it so much that I also started using F2 instead of the address bar and now I don’t even have the address bar visible at all; although it freaks out anyone else who tries to use my computer to visit a site.

@Michael Mc: I didn’t know OpenDNS offers that now…just did a bit of reading turns out they offer basically something similar to Opera’s Custom Search and Bookmark Nicknames. I think having the same searches/nicknames across a network would be not as good (i.e. someone may want wikipedia as wp while another may want washington post as wp), also some searches/bookmarks maybe shouldn’t be so easily accessed.

@Kai: not currently, would be a good idea though.

Nicknames also works with the command line, to open individual bookmark or all bokmarks included in a nicknamed folder:
for windows:
>opera.exe nickname

In first v9.x, nickname was enabled in preference startup homepage field, but now, unfortunately, it’s converted to http://nickname
