Blogger says “Guess What, Opera Listens!”
Published August 31st, 2007 11:27 AM EDT By Daniel GoldmanI read a nice post yesterday by one blogger who wrote a post with the title “Guess What, Opera Listens!“ In his post he mentions that his ‘5 gripes with Opera Min’, which he had previously blogged about, have mostly been answered with the newest beta of Opera Mini 4 (Download the beta).
Well, you bet we listen. Our users’ feedback and requests are extremely important to us. After all, you’re the one who will be using Opera Mini.
We hang out in the Opera Mini forums, scour the blogosphere, and read bug reports all in search for you feedback (and compliments, of course
). We truly want to make the best browser.
We’re not done yet, though. We’re adding more features and functionality with the next Opera Mini 4 beta to make browsing the mobile Web even easier. Hold tight.

It sure doesn’t feel that way on the Desktop, where problems can drag on interminably with so little feedback, reassurance, or even acknowledgement from Opera that it sometimes feels like Oslo might be on the far side of the moon. When a problem is even halfway acknowledged (say, Opera’s seriously annoying issues in Vista) it feels more like stonewalling or indifference. No doubt you’ll say it’s no different for the Desktop than Mini (it might have been a different case before Opera co-opted this blog and took away its critical eye), but the pretty picture you paint above is not one with which I’m familiar. This is not meant to be harsh but realistic, and I should emphasize that I don’t use Mini.

I’m impressed with Opera’s response to security bugs. I’ve reported a couple (fortunately nothing critical) and had response from dev team within an hour!
OTOH horribly broken sessions on Mac are getting on my nerves (thing that could have been fixed in 5 minutes wasn’t touched for months and got pushed back to Kestrel).
But hey, at least I didn’t have to wait 7 years to have inline-block or soft-hyphen support fixed

rseiler, just because your pet bugs aren’t fixed right away doesn’t mean that Opera isn’t listening. Maybe you should consider the way you report those problems… you know, if all you do is whine, maybe people stop listening to you.
