You know, the exact same message popped up on my desktop wizard a few weeks ago and I went ahead and deleted the Internet Explorer icon. For one, I did it just so that I could get the sheer enjoyment of deleting that thing from my desktop so that I no longer had to look at it. I would have done it earlier if I had thought of it because I like to keep my computer screen as cleaned out as possible. If nothing else it’s nice that another browser has taken up residence on my Microsoft desktop other than the Microsoft version. Every time I fire up my computer I get a little self-satisfied smile for that very same reason. Now, at least I know that there are others like me smiling over the irony of the situation.

There's also <a href="http://www.autopatcher.com/" rel="nofollow">AutoPatcher</a> and <a href="http://windowsupdate.62nds.com/" rel="nofollow">WindizUpdate</a>. ;)

Re: ClearType, it always bugs me when someone takes a screenshot with subpixel hinting turned on. Especially when the hinting is optimized for LCD displays and I'm looking at it on my CRT at work.

@Steve Barker:
It's easier to leave the icon on the desktop than argue with them :)

I am stuck with XP/Explorer at work, and had this appear on the Desktop Cleanup Wizard - I launch explorer from our intranet - I have deleted the icon several times, but it keeps re-apearing because according to the company that administers the system I am, "Tampering with the integrity of the desktop, by creating a desktop substandard to the one they are paid to maintain"!

I don't even have Internet Explorer icons on my desktop. At least not on my Windows desktops (XP or Vista). I do have 3 IE icons on my Linux desktop (5.5, 6.0, 7.0), but those are there for compatibility testing when I'm doing XHTML/CSS design.

Investor, that screenshot is not mine. It's from one another Opera employee.

I, btw, use both Opera 9.22 and Opera 9.5. My email, IRC, RSS, etc. are still in Opera 9.22.

Don't make ClearType a default feature. When I installed IE7, it had ClearType turned on by default. If I had an LCD it would have been fine, but I have a CRT. It blurred the text, making my eyes strained really hard to read any website.
