What bloggers are saying about the new Opera Mini beta?
Published June 19th, 2007 4:42 PM EDT By Daniel GoldmanToday’s successful launch of Opera Mini 4 beta (download) created nice coverage of Opera Mini in the blogosphere. Hundreds of bloggers wrote about the new Opera Mini, most of them had only praise for the new era in mobile browsing.
I spoke with many bloggers today about the new Opera Mini. One blogger was so surprised with the beta; she said to me “[I] can’t believe it’s the Mini version!” This comment sums up the reaction by many of the browser that has an install size of about 90KB.
I’ve compiled a list of some of the notable Opera Mini reviews and mentions from around the blogosphere.
Mashable:
“Overall, the changes made reflect better navigation, and a more compelling user interface, incorporating more tools and functions that we’ve become familiar with on our PCs.”
IntoMobile:
“The full internet is in the palm of your hand thanks to Opera. For those of you without a dataplan you may not realize just how powerful it is to have the entire world in your hand.”
3GSM:
“If you have never tried Opera Mini to date, you should. Even more so now with this new version available.”
YomiSays:
“the rendering of webpages on version 4 beta is much improved over the earlier version.”
Wired MonkeyBites:
“the beta is easy to use on a variety of phones, and it’s certainly an improvement over the current experience. Also, you can’t forget that Opera Mini is a free download which runs on just about any mobile with a basic data plan (No $500 device required).”
Sangsara:
“It’s fantastic, and the best reason to get a data plan”
PocketPCMauritus:
“The Wow about it is the speed with which it loads pages”
MobilityNow:
“I for one am glad Opera made the transition to the desktop like browsing experience.”
WMExperts:
“It is, in a word, sweet.”
Adrcc2:
“think twice before spending on an iPhone”
PaulOfierro:
“It scrolls like butter, and there’s a new pseudo-cursor that helps in navigating around the page making it a lot easier to navigate the “real” web on a mobile phone.”
eLeadership:
“it is in fact super cool.”
jkOnTheRun:
“start optimizing the big Internet for your small-screened device”
Nokia6300:
”Point you phone at mini.opera.com/beta and download away. You won’t look back. Promise.”
Smallist:
“The next best thing to the iPhone might just be Opera Mini, a new free browser for cellphones.”
ZDNet Mobile-Gadgeteer:
“all I have to say is WOW! This new browser client is awesome and I am finding it even better than the S60 browser in a few areas”
Salling:
“I’m impressed”
GeekWithLaptop:
“First and foremost is sheer speed. It is a fast, fast browser. Web pages load quicker and smaller, than on other browsers. This helps keep costs down for those who pay by the kilobyte for their wireless data.”
Bernie:
“I’m really surprised that a lot of people don’t know that their phones can browse HTML (not just WAP) sites by just installing Opera Mini.”
MobileCrunch:
“Turn Any Phone into an iPhone”
OSNews:
“Opera Mini 4.0-beta was released today and this seems to be one of the best surprises of the year.”
TechReport:
“ten days before the iPhone launch, Opera has made a preemptive strike against Apple’s device by introducing a new beta version of its Opera Mini browser that boasts similar functionality”
InformationWeek:
It is browsers such as Opera Mini 4 and the Safari browser on the iPhone that will show people that there’s a lot more to the mobile Internet than the WAP version they are used to. In fact, there just might be a whole new battle in the mobile space, and that would be great for the mobile industry.

The new Opera Mini 4 beta zooming function is quite impressive. Anyway it always crashes on my HTC Prophet after a while and makes my device restarting
Hopefully they will work on it,

I wanna get a data plan now!

Thank you for what is sure to make mobile operators wish they locked down their devices even more.

It is a great version but some pages just do not render well in this fashion… I would rather see a option where we could manual chose how to render the page and those options should be saved so that everytime I go to a given page it renders in the way I set.
I’m also having problems logging in to some websites (like google).
I also miss the wikipedia AND google search-box
