nytlogo.gifIt’s been a long week working on the Opera Mini 4 beta launch, and just as I was about to call it a day and head to bed, I came across this New York Times article and couldn’t pass on it. The article put a big smile on my face.

The New York Times, in an article on the paper’s website, was pretty impressed with the new Opera Mini beta. Under the title of “If You Like the Safari Browser for the iPhone, You’ll Love Opera Mini for Cellphones”, the article compares Opera Mini to the iPhone.

The Apple iPhone is certainly bringing innovation to the mobile phone arena; and with all the talk around its mobile browser, many more people are finally realizing that browsing comfortably on the phone is possible.

Pitting Opera Mini against the iPhone puts the two in the same class and brings a certain coolness factor over to Opera Mini (which, in addition to the Wii Opera-powered browser, helps transform Opera with a cooler image).

As an aside, Opera’s Haavard had a nice blog post today about whether Opera Mini is just a rip-off of the iPhone. I had some thoughts about it too, in particular to the way Apple claims to be the ‘first’ in many areas. I blogged about it recently.

Strange thing is that in the picture that NY Times use to illustrate, the website they have used is BBC News.

Didn’t they think of testing Opera Mini on their own website? =)

Indeed, probably they used some press image from Opera (where BBC often is used).
