UK Newspaper: Opera Mini is the best phone web browser by far

In an article in yesterday’s Telegraph, the paper highly recommended downloading the free Opera Mini browser to your phone, saying it “is the best phone web browser by far.”
“No matter which network operator, phone or call plan you use, we recommend three things: using mobile-specific versions of websites where available (which have been optimized for dinky screens, with basic layouts and only the important links); opting not to display images on your phone when browsing the net; and downloading the free Opera Mini browser (operamini.com).
The latter is the best phone web browser by far, and can save you money too: it compresses pages before sending them to your phone, which means they load more quickly and you get more of them per megabyte – if you’re not on an “all you can eat” plan, it could make a big difference to your bills.”

Prices for data access have recently increased from 2c/KB to 3c/KB on my network in Ireland!
I know that if I installed it, I would actually use it, which at those prices I don’t want to!

I note that for the first time marketshare.hitslink.com lists Opera Mini as a browser in its own right. It took 0.13% of the browser market in April, and was the only mobile browser to take a measurable %age.

It is a very good browser and combinded with a good screen, like the one on SE W880i or N95, it does give you a very good experience.
That is, I can easily access information I need and it makes it possible to retrieve my gmail e-mails.

What I’m waiting for is a straight answer as to what data plan I need from T-Mobile (USA) in order to use it. I don’t want to spend an extra $20/month for something I’ll only use occasionally.

I don’t like Sprint, crappy customer service. Can’t really say that what I use, Cingular, is better as I hardly use it. I maybe use Opera Mini once every few months.

Google shows all info about my country in the first result + in my language, 3rd is wikipedia.
It’s just an example of how bad yahoo mobile search works. Impossible to find anything you are looking.

NS4 was outdated, buggy, had very limited support for modern web development capabilities, and had been superceded by both alternatives and vastly more capable versions of itself (Mozilla, Netscape 6.2 and later, etc.).
That explains why most web developers I know consider IE6 to be the new NS4. Mr. Carrasco, I realize that Microsoft won’t allow you to upgrade your browser to IE7, since you’re running an older version of Windows, but you could probably benefit from trying out Opera or Firefox.
