Silverlight will work with Opera
Published May 2nd, 2007 4:24 PM EDT By Daniel GoldmanMicrosoft Silverlight, which is a cross-browser plug-in for creating rich interactive applications, is getting lots of buzz these days.
I’ve seen many complaints on blogs and forums about Silverlight not working in Opera. I will have a bit more information about this later, but for now I can just say that Silverlight will work in Opera.
More later.

Sounds interesting, but it’s not Linux compatible (and being from Microsoft, probably never will be), so I doubt I’d use it.
using
But it will work in opera on linux?
The answer is no.
using
I read they will also release a linux version, so i’m pretty sure that it will work with opera
using
Correct, at this point they’re only supporting Windows and Mac. I watched a video on Channel9 with one of the lead architects of Silverlight; he mentioned that he wouldn’t be surprised if they were to add Linux support at a later stage.

@Daniel Goldman
How’s Opera 9.5 so far? hehe. You testing new features already?
using
Hey Daniel,
Why don’t you share Opera 9.5 with us?
using
Daniel, you’re doing a good job in raising the tension. This are very good news, especially as many people will blame Opera for other people’s fault. I ask myself whether there will be a workaround or fix for Opera or for Silverlight itself.
@Kyleabaker: you can already test Kestrel / Opera 9.5 (or 10) on the Wii - besides that I’d also be interested in new features of the forthcoming desktop version.
Silverlight on Linux
According to German newsticker http://www.heise.de and CNET News Blog
Silverlight on Linux seems to be possible either by MS itself, but only for the improbable case there will be enough demand, and much more probable as a Mono port (as Silverlight is based on .NET) - with first releases available this year.
using
Iam no fan of Microsoft, but this sounds as good news. It sounds like Microsoft is bettering his life.
using
Apparently mono are promising a linux version of silverlight by th end of the year

using
Opera 9.50
using
De Icaza has said that there will be Linux version of Silverlight by the end of year.
So boys and girls, more mono **** to install…
using
Oh, and what’s all this noise with 9.50?. This is no news, 9.50 (and Opera 10) has been used by opera employees in the newsgroups since the Opera 9.10 days (probably before though).
using
Are there allready sites that use Silverlight?
or some examples what we can expect of it?
using
if silverlight wants to compete with adobe, then they’d better support linux. Adobe isn’t that supportive of linux either (there still isn’t a shockwave flash for linux), but having something is better than nothing.
using
Any reference to a NUMBER is pointless, the industry standard is to use a name, until it is ready for testing….
KESTREL is the one to talk about, here…

More names uncovered here!!

yes, I forgot to remove my cloak….
:D
using
:O I’ll try that again…
using
I’m getting ready to post about this, when I have time, but there is quite a bit of public information already after the Mix conference. I can tell you that I’m working with the Silverlight (WFP/e) team since before their first Silverlight announcement. So don’t fear, they haven’t forgotten us.
using
Aw.. no they’re using Opera 10.0! Teasers…
using
Aw.. now they’re using Opera 10.0! The teasers…
using
Silverlight sux (Go Flash!) but anyway - great news!
using
David, thanks for your article with some more background.
using
with a good proxy, you can say you are ‘wow 50′ or evn Opera 50!!
using
You could even spoof it without using anything but Opera: http://operawatch.com/news/2007/03/how-to-run-opera-from-your-usb-flash-drive.html#comment-50462
But whats the point really.

I understand, illiad. It’s intense to live in the future.
using
What will they do with linux users?
Sounds nice, that it’s compatible with win browsers, especially opera!
