Opera voted second best work place in Norway by IT students
Published May 11th, 2007 11:40 AM EDT By Daniel Goldman
In research conducted by Universum, a leading firm within employment branding and benchmarking, Opera Software was the second most popular choice to work at, trailing only Microsoft.
Between January and March of this year they had surveyed more than 3,000 IT students at all the leading universities and colleges around Norway. The students were (among other things) asked to name their preferred employers after graduation.
Here’s the list (complete list here):
- Microsoft
- Opera Software
- Statoil
- IBM
- Nokia
- Sun Microsystems
- Cisco Systems
- Hydro
- Ericsson
- Telenor
Opera officials attended an awards ceremony arranged by Universum last night.
With close to 400 employees, Opera is still much smaller than the other companies on the list, which I find kind of interesting. (See photos of Opera’s headquarters)

Funny, Opera Software’s rank is much higher than Telenor. I wonder if working conditions were one of the things that Jon von Tetzchner and Geir Ivarsøy wanted to improve upon when they left Telenor…

I am amazed not to see Funcom on the list. Although I have never worked there my self (neither Opera), I would rank Funcom and Opera up there together from my point of view.

Statoil, WTF? I guess that’s where all the less ambitious students go
Trolltech is on the list too, that’s neat.

I wouldn’t choose MicroooSoft X( , If I were a norvegian student.

Another example of a low population but high satisfaction in regards to Opera.

How the heck did Microsoft get number 1?
