@Svip: Try a Google search for "/." -- it won't come up with anything. That pretty much confirms that it's being handled as a special case and not a search.

I no longer need to manuelly enter slashdot.org into my browser.

I never really use bookmarks anyways, never manage to get around to transfering them around to my other computers anyways. Thanks to opera for doing it for me. :D

Uuh. I thought Opera just searched Google when you typed something random into the address bar.

Anyone who can confirm that this is hardcoded into Opera?

:( /. on Minefield takes me to file:///

@IceArdor: Yeah, that would be funny, considering that you don't need an extension to make it work in Firefox. Opera isn't the only browser that lets you assign a nickname to a bookmark (only Firefox calls it a keyword).

It'd make me laugh to see some Firefox fanboy write an entire extension just so they could get this feature in their favorite browser, too.

I decided to try this out in Firefox.. I figured they might have it. It just spun its wheels. "I'm sorry, I'm trying to look up www.... but I just fail. Here, enjoy my 404 page."
