smartphone.pngDownloads of the Opera Mobile browser for Windows Mobile Smartphones and Pocket PCs have increased by more than 50% over this same time period last year.

During the month of February 2007, there were 216,283 downloads up from 142,502 in February 2006. The Opera browser for Pocket PC on Windows Mobile 5.0 is the most popular download among Opera’s Windows Mobile browser offerings.

In addition to the increased interest by end users in the mobile browser, manufacturers and carriers, such as HTC, Toshiba, Motorola, Vodaphone, and T-Mobile, have announced in the last few months that they will be pre-installing the Opera browser on some of their Windows Mobile handsets.

I need to get myself the Archos 604 WiFI. Or is the 704 WiFi also Opera powered?

That would be a lot more fun than a PocketPC. Although I wouldn’t mind a nice ASUS PDA… ;)

I noticed you have USA Today in the thumbnail for this story. And while I know you’re against web sites having special mobile versions of their web sites, USA Today has a very good one. I much prefer using it to the main USA Today page because everything is geared directly towards phones. Not graphics intense, and sorted very well. Give it a shot if you haven’t already.

The 704 is also Opera Powered.

Sorry Daniel, but I consider the given comparison as not quite valid. The release of the final Opera Mobile 8.6 for PPC was in end of May 2006. In February there was beta2 available which was greatly improved by the final version.

Here for example the according press release

    Faster surfing on Windows Mobile
The Opera browser now available for Pocket PC
    Oslo, Norway – May 31, 2006

Opera Software today released Opera Mobile™ 8.6 for Windows Mobile(R), finally offering Pocket PC owners a fast and user-friendly Web surfing experience on their devices.

Besides that it is great to hear that the world’s best mobile browser (or browsers including Opera Mini) is quite successful. It would be interesting to read about the number of paid versions of Opera mobile (preinstalled by vendors or registred privately) or the traffic (like similar announcements for Opera Mini).

By the way: where is the today announced version 8.65 or when it will be available?

In addition, Opera Software is releasing a preview of the latest public version of the Opera browser for Windows Mobile. With Opera Mobile 8.65 (beta)

Well, I suppose that will produce some work for me to update my Guide for Opera 8.60 for Windows Mobile. Can I get a free licence for this?

Then the Archos 704 WiFi it is… ;)

Now I just need a steady income so that I can afford one. Doing freelance computer repair is fun, but it doesn’t do much more than pay the bills.

I bought Opera Mobile 8.60u2 around that time. I must say it was the best investment I made on my X51v.

    Though I admit when I saw 8.65 I went through one hell of a search to get it :p I couldn’t wait. Still I wonder why there’s a delay…

Does Opera Mobile have same proxy feature like Opera Mini?

What’s the main difference between opera mini and opera mobile?

  8. 8 Daniel Goldman

Garrett Wu, Opera Mobile is a full web browser, it doesn’t use a proxy.

I´m just playin with Opera Mobile 8.65 beta1 for Windows Mobile on my iPAQ rx3715, which is available since yesterday on http://ftp.opera.com and which will be announced on Monday. There are lots of changes under the hood. Even Flash works, although not quite usable on my slow PDA.Stay tuned.
