Wii browser passes the Acid2 test

One of my readers, Robin Zalek, emailed me a few screenshots from the Wii Opera browser. Two of them showed how it passes the Acid2 test (See screenshots below).

The Acid2 test has been written to help browser vendors make sure their products correctly support features that are part of web standards.

I’m not sure which version of Opera the Wii runs on; perhaps someone with knowledge on the issue could shed some light on this.

Opera on the Wii reports itself as: opera/9.00 (nintendo wii; u; ; 1309-9; en)

I was just about to say that even though I have no way of checking, as James apparently does, Opera 8 did not handle Acid2 properly but 9 did, so it would stand to reason that Wii has 9 in it. But there you have confirmation.

From the press release “The Opera browser for Wii is based on the same standards compliant core as Opera 9″

@Croft, you would be correct in assuming v9 instead of v8, because as far as I know v8 is not really even supported anymore since the official release of v9. Can’t wait to see what this does for the web since some sites will be checking twice to see that their pages work flawlessly with Opera from now on, haha.
