I love Opera Mini, it’s an excellent way to kill time

Yesterday I had to wait in line for about an hour and a half at the Motor Vehicle Administration to get a new registration card for my car. Luckily I had Opera Mini on my cellphone; I was able to kill most of the time by reading my Bloglines RSS feed subscriptions and visit other news sites.

My current mobile phone, the Sanyo 8200, only supports the basic version of Opera Mini. I’m looking for a new phone that supports the regular Opera Mini version, and preferably also the full Opera Mobile browser.

The Motorola Razr V3x and maxx, which comes with the full Opera Mobile browser pre-installed, should be coming out with Cingular in the United States sometime soon. Is it worth waiting?

I think that’s better pick a Symbian phone, like the Nokia E62/N70/N73 will be a better choice, they run Symbian - and the Full Mobile version of Opera.

Windows Mobile phones are great too, but Symbian has more software avaliable.

IF you prefer a Moto phone, search the A1200/ROKR E2, that runs on Linux and have a native Opera browser.
The V3s uses the Motorola’s own OS, that have a horrible usability…

I have Windows 2003 phone and *I hate it*. It’s usability is terrible - it’s ridden with small annoyances like unlocking keyboard is either “softkey, #” when screen is lit, and “softkey, softkey, #” when screen is dim! (screensaver “eats” a keystroke).

Opera Mini has been indispensable this shopping season during the long waits for the wife ;)

I’ve been using opera mini from the first batch with my motorola e1000. Never had a problem with it.

I installed Opera Mini (the java-thingy) on my V3x just today.
So i’m very surprised to see there is a possibility for real Opera on this phone.
Unfortunately, it seems Opera only comes preinstalled in certain software-versions.
Mine`s got german vodafone-branded software, and no opera preinstalled. Is there any chance for me getting real opera installed on this thing?

Martin, likes the V3x and would love it even more with real opera

I’m not a big fan of RAZRs. They may look cool, but they just don’t have the memory and functionality of a lot of Nokia’s mid-range phones.

Oh, and I was at the mall today, trying to figure out what to get with some gift cards. So, I looked up my Amazon.com wish list using Opera Mini while walking around Borders. It was great!

You might also consider Sony Ericsson M600 - a Symbian UIQ device with a full Opera pre-installed (~$350 unlocked, no 850MHz support though).

Several Sony Ericsson phones have full Opera pre-installed, and they all have great J2ME support and great cameras. Take a look at W950i, for example.

Or, consider getting a phone with a competing browser, like NetFront. It helps to be looking at competition regularly. :-)
