Sony’s new mylo includes the Opera browser built-in

The new Sony mylo, a Wi-Fi device that works in any 802.11b wireless network, will include the Opera browser.

Details of the new mylo, which stands for “my life online”, were made public today. The device will come with built-in Skype, Google Talk and Yahoo Messenger.

The mylo will directly compete with the Nokia 770, which also includes the Opera browser.

The advantage for these kinds of devices to use the Opera browser, besides for its speed, is Opera’s Small-Screen Rendering (SSR) technology, which reformats webpages to fit the small screen of mobile devices, eliminating need for horizontal scrolling. The size of the mylo screen is 320×240 pixels.

Set for release next month (in the US), the mylo will cost $350.

I hope they licence Opera for PSP, but I doubt it, as that would annoy Nintendo. Shame as the Sony browser, whist OK, is vastly inferior to Opera.

Sony lost control of the digital market a long time ago in my opinion. It’s Apple now.

    But nevertheless it’s good news.

Why didn’t they just use PSP Browser ?

Looks pretty cool. I’d probably get one if it werent for notebooks having more capability and generally being just as mobile as a handheld.

    Any word from Oslo?

In landscape mode Opera will most probably use Medium Screen Rendering (MSR), which looks even better than SSR. I love it on my PDA with Opera mobile.

OK, it looks like I need to save up some money…
