Opera User Groups moves to college campuses
Published August 4th, 2006 1:22 PM EDT By Daniel GoldmanOpera is making the push for social meet-ups on college and university campuses.
The first Opera User Group meet up on the campus will take place at The University of Texas at Austin (UT) on August 15th. The Computer Science department at the university is arranging this get-together.
The first group meeting, which will take place before school starts, will discuss administration, and the future of Opera and browsing on campus and in the world.
Dean Kakridas, VP for Market Development at Opera, will be in attendance. Dean has got some excellent marketing plans for promoting the desktop browser in the US market, maybe you could get the inside scoop. One of Opera Software’s offices in the US is located in Austin, Texas.
The time and exact location for this meeting has yet to be determined, stay tuned for more details.
If you’re interested in setting up a similar Opera User Group meet up in your school, either email Dean Kakridas (found on his website) or myself. Opera will help you get started; in some cases they will send you a check for pizza and drinks.
Opera will provide pizza and drinks, so drop by after work.

And I’m stuck here in Canada!

Yuck. Why did they choose UT? Texas Tech would be a much better choice!

I’d love to do something like this at my school, but it’s full of FireFox lovers …

College campuses? How about high school campuses? As far as I’m concerned, they need it the most. At my high school, I recently began my senior year and one thing that hasn’t changed since I was a freshman is my school’s extremely ignorant attitude to any alternative browser. Sometimes students manage to sneak one on a computer and they are met with harsh threats and warnings. I really wish someone could get Opera into public schools across the country, or at least raise awareness, because right now, awareness is still as low as it’s ever been.
