That could be done by removing some messages by all those Russians who’re just havin’ fun.

There are two main reasons for requiring comments to be posted in English:

1) This is an English site, which by definition excludes other languages. My English readers don’t particularly care to read comments in a language other than English. There are many other sites that reprint my article in other languages (which is fine, so long as they link back to me), feel free to post your comments on those sites.

2) Posting in other languages means that I can’t moderate those comments for inappropriate content.

I read every comment that is posted to Opera Watch and I appreciate you taking the time to discuss the Opera buzz here. Please continue to post comments, but ONLY in English

V: Being able to post **** does not automatically mean that the person WILL post **** or is doing it, so NOBODY can delete anything HE/SHE does not understand. Being able to kill does not “bring us” to sending everyone to prison, for technically anyone is able to kill his/her neighbour.

Deleting (killing) anything that YOU do not understand is also xenophobia, a small sister of racism. Racism is segregation by national attribute, in this particular case - language. By deleting every Russian message you imply that ALL these messages were offensive, which cannot be true.

Democracy as you call it in the West claims to be a society where minorities are not oppressed by majority. So, “japanese or some other random language” is welcome under REAL democracy. Making decisions based on the will of Majority is “bolshevism” (”majoritism”) - the start of Communism as it was in USSR.

Since when did this become a “racist” blog just because the administrator deleted some comments and asked for everyone to talk in english?

And seriously, I can understand why he would delete them if they were in another language. Posting in an english blog in russian is just as disrespectful as posting in a russian blog in japanese or some other random language. If you can read and write two or more languages, fine, great for you. But that doesn’t mean everyone else can. Posting in a language other than the one the administrator and majority of visitors speak accomplishes three things:

1. making it harder for the admin to do his job

2. no one understanding what in the world you’re saying - because of this, your post might as well not exist and is pretty pointless

which brings us to…

3. being able to post derogatory/abusive comments without anyone knowing you’re doing so

Daniel is just trying to do his job. Leave him alone. If you can read and write English, great - now do it.

Удаление комментов по признаку языка есть прямой акт расизма, что совершенно не вяжется с духом Оперы - открытость всем. Бойтесь русских - некоторые из нас могут и говорить, и писать по-английски и понимают, что знание хотя бы двух языков - это неоспоримое преимущество перед тобой, узколобый долбосос, и что расизм нельзя терпеть ни в какой форме!
