Opera to Release New Community Site Tomorrow

Opera will release a new version of its community site tomorrow (in about 8 hours from the time of this posting).

The new site is expected to add many new features.

Among the new features that it will be introduce will be “tagging”. With tagging you will be able to label various items, such as a blog entry, much like with Flickr. Tagging will play a big role in the new community site.

The new site will also have support for FOAF. For more information about the Friend of a Friend (FOAF) project, visit www.foaf-project.org.

The Opera Journals will be renamed to “Blogs”. The new blogs will feature HTML support, trackbacks, and weblog pinging.

Stephan Nedregaard, the architect of the new community site, told me that they have written the entire community site from scratch. “It’s going to be revolutionary in terms of community systems, although the first release is kind of limited.”

The old community site currently contains a countdown to the new release.

Update (10:30PM): Here is a small unreleased screenshot of Opera’s new community site.

I miss my Opera Journal, I can’t access it for quite awhile. I do hope the newly enhanced one will have more functionality and customizability. Trackbacks are good, as are pinging and HTML support. How about blog rolls and new templates? :P

Welcome back. I hope your vacation was most enjoyable.

It appears that you have returned just in time for the big change.

I’m sure the change was due about 30mins ago, or am I going nuts?
