Opera 8.5 and Opera 9 (TP) don't have BT support, however the final version of Opera 9 will include this support.

Uhm, does anyone got updated info in this? I testing in 8.5 now, but there doesn't seem to be possible to run torrents in opera, it just downloads the .torrent and opens it in bitcomet, no dialog. Searching opera.com returns 0 hits, but there is a post in their forum about a preview of v 9.0, where they "want to" include torrent support. When doing a google search I found a few links to torrentrelated stuff, but nothing official since the 7th july press release.

Wassup?

Hmm, point-and-click torrent download is nice.

Any idea why they're using a non-standard port for uploads? I had to reconfigure my router to let them in. (And now I have to reconfig my .ini file to limit the upload rate -- in auto mode it keeps maxing out my ADSL connection and I can't send things like request packets.)

Does anyone know if, once a torrent download is complete, Opera will continue to seed the file for others to download? If not then the other torrent users will not be overly happy with the situation.

Now minghong is asking for proof, even though he was less than enthused when I asked for proof for some of his earlier posts here.

Anyway, I think I'll stick with BitComet for now. Good idea, though.

<B>2) BitTorrent license clearly states that source code of derivative work must be made availible. How will this concide with Opera's nonopensourceness? (I thereby copyright word 'nonopensourceness'.)</B>
No, the source does not need to be made available if it is not based on the BitTorrent source code, which is in Python.

No change log is available yet, hopefully we will have that today or tomorrow.

The client is there, though doesn't appear to be any kind of "options" for it as far as I can see. Proof? Install Opera 8.02TP1 and click on a torrent link, Opera will open it up. What more do you need? :p

While it's nice to see, it is still a pre-beta version. Who knows what will change between this version and 8.02 final (or even 9.0, 10.0, etc.).

As bigtime Opera fan, this is a great news to me. But I wonder about two things: 1) will there be a DHT layer like in Azureus, BitComet and official client? 2) BitTorrent license clearly states that source code of derivative work must be made availible. How will this concide with Opera's nonopensourceness? (I thereby copyright word 'nonopensourceness'.)
