Opera 8.01 final released

The upgrade, Opera 8.01, contains mainly security and bug fixes. In addition, Opera has also made many improvements to its handling of JavaScript.
Secunia released today 3 security advisories for Opera 8, all of which have security fixes in this new version. Apparently, Secunia delayed these security advisories to give Opera some time to respond.
Opera has also introduced Browser JavaScript, a JavaScript file that automatically fixes incompatible Web pages, out of date scripts, and pages that inadvertently block Opera. The script file is distributed by Opera (the company). Opera checks for updates to Browser JavaScript once every week. The feature is disabled by default, as it’s not ready for prime time yet. Some performance issues still need to be worked out before it becomes a standard feature in a future release.
Note to Blogger users, Blogger now works with Opera 8.01.

though it was anounced it seems that update checker don’t works
I can be wrong but my Opera (v8.01, build 7583) didn’t tell me about the latest build is availible

The update check is currently configured to check once a week.
You can manually check by going to Help > Check for new release…

All right! The Linux version doesn’t add that extra “Final build” junk to the window title!
Here’s hoping the update checker works right. I’ve lost count of the number of times (only on Linux) it popped up to tell me there was a newer version available (8.0 was apparently newer than 8.0) and the download page handed me the exact same RPM.
In other news, Browser JavaScript sounds like a cool idea. Site-specific workarounds, centrally managed and updated but kept separate from the app code itself. I’m reminded of the app-specific hacks Microsoft has put into Windows when older, but popular programs relied on bugs they were fixing, but the separation makes this much more flexbile. Especially considering that there’s always a chance the page will be updated and start working on its own — or even break the workaround!

This problem was noted by Opera already. Opera would notify that a newer version is available, but still show only Opera 8.0.
This problem was caused due to Opera’s new Japanese page that was being set up (synched with the rest of Opera.com).
This issue should be fixed by now.

Well, I’ve enabled Browser Javascript (by editing the .ini file) but I’m just unable to figure out how or if it works. Any pointers?
You don’t have do make any other setting changes besides for enabling Browser JavaScript. Opera will do the rest.

I find using Blogger in Opera 8.01 that you only get the spell check and the picture insert buttons when you make a new post. In Firefox and IE6 you get the html buttons too.
So what, last time you couldn’t even type! I am glad I can update my blog…
It is still not possible to post pictures to Blogger as the HTML code doesn’t generate automatically. Only three buttons are available (spell check, picture and file upload) instead of a range of them.
They are quite essential to me and I have to do it with IE now…
